How do you know if your guy friend likes you?

I have a guy friend who is my crush and at every step of the way i feel hurt and attracted to his ways becuase he is cute and his personality is real and amazing to me. I caught feelings for him alot and i feel so broken hearted becuase he knows that i like him but all he says is "If that's how you feel" or "It's just your feelings so it's nothing bad" But idk why but everytime he sees me he says hi or wants to give me a hug and says i'm his bestfriend and when i say "not really" he says "OOhh so its like that!" He always seems so happy and wants to be around me but he doesn't say he likes me back.. so i guess that means he doesn't like me right ?
